Cooking with the Brava Smart Oven

I had the pleasure of learning about (and then receiving) the Brava smart oven at Dave Aspery’s annual Biohacking Conference which is known for its cutting edge technology and techniques to help us live as longer and healthier. Alongside items like cryogenic tanks, infared saunas and the latest superfood supplements was the Brava, AKA my new favorite appliance which fondly reminds me of the Easy Bake Oven set I had as a child.

No this is not an ad (although thanks Brava for sending one, ironically on my birthday 🙂

From roasting to dehydrating, to simply reheating, the “Tesla of Ovens” does it all by using light to cook hotter, faster, and with more precision than anything we’ve seen before.  Plus the built in cameras allow you to check in on your food and even control it from the mobile app.

The oven preheats in seconds, and can cook your food up to four times faster than a conventional oven. The oven can cook a wide range of foods, from meat and vegetables to bread and desserts. And because it uses different cooking methods, you can even cook multiple items at once, without worrying about flavors or aromas mixing which is one of the things I love the most. It’s also good at containing aromas – which is great for me as I tend to not like the smell of food once I’m good and full lol.

Although its definitely more expensive than a microwave oven, it saves money over time by using less energy than a traditional oven and it doesn’t generate as much heat as a conventional oven and most importantly it saves actual time, which is usually worth more than money…

Since all your cooking data is recorded, looking back over the past few months I’ve toasted bread more than anything and lots of baking which it does a great job of. I am especially impressed with the rice cooker function – my mother is impressed with the steak and potatoes! Although I will admit that I don’t use it when I am doing recipe development (since most people don’t have one yet) I am working on a few “custom cooks” for smaller portions and things that I can share with the Brava community. Speaking of which there are plenty of recipes on the oven itself and in the app which are quite tasty – I’ve made the Bananas Foster a few times!

My only quirks (which I’ve shared with the team) are the beeping reminder after cooking and not being able to turn the oven on from the phone, but other than that, I love it and think that technology like this is truly the future of food and a great alternative to traditional gas appliances especially if you live alone or in a small space. This is especially cool for home builders who can integrate the Brava before they make any other appliance purchases.

As of this post there is a new release featuring a glass door to see inside (although you can also do this through the app) and there are constant updates to the tech and recipes every week for all models so there is always a new food adventure ahead!
